The Qatar International Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) recently participated in the 9th Sharm El Sheikh International Arbitration Conference, held in Egypt.
The event - organised by the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA), and focused on the theme, ‘The Role of State Courts in International Arbitration’ - saw the QICCA delegation, led by Sheikh Dr Thani bin Ali al-Thani, board member for international relations, and included Ibrahim Shahbik, the secretary-general.
The conference was attended by prominent personalities as the Egyptian Minister of Justice, along with representatives from notable organisations such as the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), the African Legal Consultative Organisation, and the International Council for Commercial Arbitration.
Underscoring QICCA’s commitment to promoting the culture of arbitration in Qatar, Sheikh Dr Thani said the centre has organised many international conferences on arbitration and a multitude of specialised seminars on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).
The development of rules governing ADR is considered one of the most important legislations supporting the investment and stimulating trade, he said, adding as it provides an informal legal framework away from state courts for resolving commercial and civil disputes between national or foreign parties in an effective and time-saving manner.
He praised the Arab Arbitration Forum, which is an Arab electronic platform that focuses on the latest developments in Arab and international arbitration.
