The Ministry of Municipality, in collaboration with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), inaugurated Al Themaid and Al Sudan parks in Al Rayyan area Tuesday as part of the National Day celebrations.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by assistant undersecretary for public services affairs engineer Abdullah Ahmed al-Kharani, Al Rayyan Municipality director-general Jaber Hassan al-Jaber, Public Parks Department director Mohamed Ibrahim al-Sada, and a number of officials from the Ministry of Municipality and Al Rayyan Municipality.

Al-Sada said that the opening of Al Themaid and Al Sudan parks is part of continuous efforts to develop the parks and recreation system across the country, in line with the Third National Development Strategy and Qatar National Vision 2030.

"When establishing parks, we focus on residential neighbourhoods to increase green spaces and provide diverse recreational areas for citizens and expatriates, given the social significance of these areas,” he added.

Al-Sada noted that the number of public parks and recreational spaces in the country has now reached 149, including plazas and corniches (120 public parks, 25 plazas, and four corniches).

He also pointed out that the ministry is preparing to open several new parks with international standards in the near future, further enhancing community well-being and achieving sustainable environmental development.

Al Themaid Park spans a total area of 15,747sq m, featuring 9,892sq m of open green spaces.

The park includes various pathways, such as a 438m walking track, a 363m cycling track, and a 343m jogging track.

It boasts a rich environment with 212 trees and 1,054 shrubs forming green hedges.

The park offers a children’s play area of 454sq m, equipped with safe play equipment, fitness areas, 29 parking lots, and 135 lighting units enhancing the overall scenic landscape.

Al Sudan Park covers a total area of 2,303sq m, with 1,471sq m of green spaces.

It includes a 164m walking track and a 258sq m children’s play area with suitable equipment.

The park is distinguished by 39 trees of various types providing shade, 107sq m of shrubs forming green hedges, 12 parking lots, and 57 lighting units illuminating the green spaces.
