Almost 80% of the development project for the Al-Karaana area has been completed, revealed Naif bin Ali Maeeqa al-Ahbabi, member of the Central Municipal Council representing constituency no 21.

He told local Arabic daily Arrayah that the western part of the area has been fully equipped with street lightening system recently.

He said: “I am in the process of requesting a housing plan for the Al-Karaana area, even on as small scale, as long as the area is equipped with complete and available services such as sewage, interlocking paving, lighting, landscaping, a 24/7 health centre, modern school buildings, and an Al Meera hypermarket.”

He added: “Since the services are available, there is nothing preventing the distribution of residential land plots on citizens in this area, as the public services there are almost operational. The area is nearly complete and ready for residential land allocation.”

Al-Ahbabi pointed out that most countries prefer distributing residential lands outside the capital as a better option for managing population density and reducing congestion in the capital. He explained that Al-Karaana is a future city and represents a gateway to Qatar from the southern land entry point, stressing that services in the Al-Karaana area are almost fully completed.

He noted: “The completed projects there include Al Meera project, which is now operational and meets all the needs of the area’s inhabitants. Also commercial shop projects and all infrastructures, including paving, sewage systems, lighting, interlock paving, trees, and beautification of the place are all almost complete."

He said that a project was signed to establish a walking track around the entire area of Al-Karaana has been completed. Besides, he highlighted the ongoing work on the construction of a public park in Al-Karaana, noting that land has been allocated for the park and that the project is under implementation by the Public Works Authority, (Ashghal).

Regarding tourism development plans for the area, based on its geographical location, Al-Ahbabi noted that the southern region includes the Salwa Resort, which serves as the primary destination for tourists entering the country through the land border.

He said: “In Al-Karaana, we prefer privacy due to the conservative nature of the area’s inhabitants, who generally do not favor overcrowding. Al-Karaana is characterized by its private and tranquil nature.”

Al-Ahbabi explained that visitors coming through the Abu Samra border crossing to enjoy Qatar's atmosphere will find the Salwa Resort a suitable destination. The complex offers outstanding services, stunning beach views, water games, recreational programs, and tourism projects that cater to all groups and ages.

In the meantime, Al-Karaana area is witnessing noticeable urban and population growth, reflecting its importance as one of the country’s oldest areas and the southern gateway to Qatar for those entering through the Abu Samra land crossing.
