President of International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), Mohammed Hasan Jalood, lauded the ‘extraordinary organisation’ of the six-day Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships organised by Qatar Weightlifting and Fencing Federation (QWF), noting that the event evidently broke the continental and global records, in terms of the emergence of outstanding male and female weightlifters who will have a great future both in Asia and the world.
Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Jalood said the competitions were held in spectacular atmosphere, whether in terms of the venues or accommodation hotels, as well as the provision of all kinds of amenities for participants.
He underlined that the significant success in hosting the first three tournaments by QWF, along with Arab and international championships is ascribed to Qatar’s possession of massive capabilities, as well as technical and organisational potential.
The technical aspect of the tournament was spectacular after breaking of numerous Asian and global records, which underscores the advancement of this sport in Asia and the rise of outstanding athletes, highlighted Jalood, expressing his gratitude to the State of Qatar, represented by QWF, for the full support he received to win a new term. He noted that the First Vice-President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Mohammed bin Yusuf al-Mana, and the president of QWF will be his principal supporters in these elections. He further underscored that, since the inception of his presidency, he has dedicated himself tirelessly to advancing the sport on both global and Olympic stages, particularly given the sport’s remarkable rise in popularity across numerous nations, as evidenced by the dominance of Asian countries in securing Olympic medals.
In addition, Jalood highlighted that he altered multiple technical and administrative matters that would help advance the sport, emphasizing that IWF had fully resolved the doping crisis that had plagued it, investing over $3mn annually to raise athlete awareness.
