As part of its mission to foster intercultural communication and preserve Arab cultural identity, Qatar Charity recently organised a unique educational event at the Orphans Centre in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The event brought together children, their families, and female students from Qatar Charity’s student housing, celebrating the Arabic language’s vital role in enhancing cultural and religious understanding.
Held in honour of the International Day of the Arabic Language, this event underscored the importance of language as a bridge between cultures. It comes as part of “Furqan,” an educational and cultural programme of Qatar Charity.
The event featured three engaging educational lectures held at the Orphans Centre, exploring various themes connected to the Arabic language and the Qur’an. These lectures aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of Arabic and its connection to Islamic culture.
One lecture highlighted the Qur’an’s scientific references and profound insights, showcasing its timeless relevance and encouraging exploration beyond the boundaries of time and place. Another session examined frequently used words in the Qur’an, offering participants a deeper understanding of their linguistic and spiritual meanings.
Additionally, the lectures shed light on the Arabic language’s influence on Bosnia. The rich history of cultural and religious exchange between the Arab world and Bosnia has left a lasting linguistic imprint, with many Arabic words becoming part of the Bosnian language.
To complement the lectures, interactive workshops were organised for children, making the event engaging and educational. These workshops introduced the basics of Arabic in a fun and accessible way. Children practised introducing themselves in Arabic and learned commonly used words to help them in everyday situations.
A standout feature of the event was the active involvement of female students residing in Qatar Charity’s housing. These students played a key role in organising the event, managing workshops, assisting children, and facilitating the lectures. Their dedication and enthusiasm ensured the event’s success, while their efforts to engage with the local community provided valuable opportunities for personal growth and skill development.
To mark the occasion, Qatar Charity presented symbolic gifts to all participants, including children and their families. This gesture reflected the organisation’s appreciation for their involvement and its commitment to creating meaningful and memorable experiences.
This event showcased Qatar Charity’s dedication to education and cultural exchange, particularly in promoting the Arabic language among non-Arabic-speaking communities.
