Young participants showcased their prowess in the shooting range on Saturday during the Junior Shooting Championship of the 16th edition of the Qatar International Falcons and Hunting Festival (Marmi 2025).

The event is organised by the Qatari Falconry Association under the patronage of HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani, supported by the Social and Sports Activities Support Fund (Daam), and set to go on until February 1 at Sabkhat Marmi in the Sealine area.

Before the start of the Junior Shooting Championship, according to an official statement from Marmi 2025, several participants conducted activation tours in shooting to determine their readiness before the start of the official competitions.

“We participate annually in the festival with the aim of promoting shooting in the community as the Qatar Shooting Federation has significant contributions at the global level,” said Ahmed Mubarak al-Kuwari, head of the Shooting Championship at the Marmi Festival. “These events are opportunities to discover talents in this type of sport, and they also enjoy public interest in Marmi.”

First prize winner Ali Masoud al-Athba attributed his win to the training he received, along with his brothers, by his father.

Al-Athba won the cash prize of QR10,000, while the second-place winner won a cash prize of QR7,000, and the third-place winner won a cash prize of QR3,000.

Marmi Festival chairman Metaib bin Mubarak al-Qahtani, deputy chairman Abdulwahab bin Omair al-Naimi, and Ahmed bin Mubarak al-Kuwari crowned the winners.

The organising committee has announced the postponement of the participation of groups 11, 14 and 15 in Tal’a Championship to morning tomorrow, while the participation of groups 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25 was postponed to Tuesday.

The Haddad Al Tahadi Championship competitions meanwhile continued with Group 9.

The Marmi Festival provides comprehensive services for the participants and visitors, including a wide range of shops at Souq Marmi that cater to all needs, including traditional seating areas that respect family privacy.

The festival also sports shops offering medications and falconry tools are close by and easily accessible to falconers.

With the participation of the Souq Waqif Falcon Hospital, also available are on-site consultations, treatments, and examinations with advanced veterinary equipment.
