The Souq Waqif International Equestrian Festival 2025 kicked off Tuesday featuring the elegance of exquisite Arabian horses. Held at the western square of Souq Waqif, the event enthused the spectators on the inaugural day with a large participation of owners, breeders, farms and stables in Qatar and the region.
The festival began with the 6th Souq Waqif International Arabian Horse Show (A), for one-year-old colts and the show witnessed strong competition.
“There are 92 participating horses. This proves that the turnout for this participation is very, very large and the turnout in the competitions will be greater in the coming days. We have competition from the two-year, three-year, four-year and six-year categories,” said Abdul Rahman al-Naama, General Supervisor of the festival, adding that the number of participants has doubled this championship. “The number of participants from Gulf countries has also doubled,” he said.
Running until Jan 16, the show witnesses competition of Arabian purebred horses. The first day witnessed several competitions in the presence of a large audience of horse enthusiasts and visitors at Souq Waqif.
The show started with the qualifying rounds for yearling fillies that included four qualifying competitions. These were followed by the yearling colts’ competitions that were held in two competitions. Several rounds of competitions followed the two competitions. The winners were honoured by the organisers.
The crowning of the champions with gold, silver and bronze medals will take place on Jan 16.
On Jan 17, as part of the show, kids' heritage and competitions will be held while the 14th Qatar International Arabian Peninsula Horse Show (S) will be held from Jan 18-20. The Arabian Horse Auction will be held on Jan 21.
