China announced that the total number of people affected by natural disasters in China reached 94.13 million in 2024.China's National Commission for Disaster Reduction (NCDR) and the Ministry of Emergency Management revealed that a total of 856 people were killed or missing as a result of natural disasters last year, in addition to the rapid resettlement of 3.65 million people, the collapse of 64,000 houses and the damage of 832,000 houses.The two bodies indicated in a joint statement that the direct economic losses caused by natural disasters in 2024 amounted to CNY 401.11 billion (about USD 55.8 billion).The statement added that floods, geological disasters, typhoons and natural disasters caused by strong winds, extremely cold temperatures and snow were the major natural disasters that occurred in China in 2024, while drought, earthquakes, forest fires, grassland fires and sandstorms affected the country to varying degrees.
