Prominent Indian community leader, entrepreneur and longtime Qatar-resident, Hassan Abdulkareem Chougule passed away in India Wednesday.

Chougule was awarded the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award in 2012, the highest civilian award by Government of India for Indian citizens staying outside India.

A resident of Qatar for over 45 years, Chougule, along with several of his friends had been instrumental in the formation some of the major socio-cultural organisations in Qatar. He had served as the president of three apex bodies under Indian embassy, the only Indian to hold such a feat. Chougule had been a founder member of Ideal Indian School and DPS Group of Institutions in Qatar. A native of Maharashtra, he was undergoing treatment in India.
