The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC), in cooperation with the competent authorities, has seized 120 pieces of rhinoceros horn and ivory, weighing a total of 45.26kg.

These were seized when a traveller attempted to smuggle them through Hamad International Airport (HIA) without obtaining the necessary permits. The action was part of the ongoing efforts of MoECC to combat illegal trade in wild and endangered species.

The MoECC has urged all to comply with Law No (5) for 2006 regarding the regulation of trade in endangered wildlife species and their products. Besides, the Wildlife Development Department called on everyone to ensure they carry the necessary permits and documents when bringing any endangered wildlife species or their derivatives, which are protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

The department also noted that requests for permit issuance services can be submitted free of charge through the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change's website: www.mecc.gov.qa. Further, for any inquiries, individuals can contact the ministry at 16066.
