Qatar Foundation’s (QF) Education City is gearing up for the Sport Day celebrations, which will be held on February 11.
To be held from 7am to 3pm, the recreational and competitive sports will make Education City the ultimate destination to celebrate the Sport Day to offer opportunities for engagement, activity and enjoyment.
“We have lined up an array of sporting and wellness activities to mark the Sport Day. Competitions have been planned for schools, colleges and the public. The Education City Stadium will be a women's hub to host various programmes. We will have fitness programmes and obstacle courses to mark the day,” Alexandru Rosca, manager, Community Engagement & Activation at QF told Gulf Times.
To mark the formal launching of the activities, QF opened the padel tournament for its staff Saturday. The final of the tournament will be held on February 11.
A series of competitions will be held in partnership with Volkswagen Middle East. The Education City Triathlon is set to return to offer a combination of swimming, cycling, and running for all levels of fitness. The triathlon will feature two categories – one for ladies only, and one that is open to everyone – and will include a 100m swim, a 4km cycling stage, and a 1.25km run. Registration can be done here.
The Education City Run will offer various race options to challenge yourself and join the community in a fun athletic challenge. There are 10K, 5K and 3K options for adults, and a two junior races of 3km and 800m for children. Registration can be done here.
The Education City Mountain Bike Trail Races will host an exciting night event along a 5km route for adults and juniors, with registration available here.
The Education City Stadium will host an exclusive Women’s Fitness Challenge, featuring an exclusive obstacle course for women in teams of two. The competition features a series of challenging events including a 1km run, monkey bars, inverted walls, sandbag moves, army crawls, and more. Registration is available here.
The stadium will also stage the finals of the Women and Girls Football Initiative on National Sport Day offering female spectators a thrilling atmosphere to cheer on the players. More information can be found here.
In collaboration with The Running Club, a running experience will be offered on the Education City Stadium’s concourse level, alongside other competitive activities. The Stadium will also host concourse activations for women and girls to enjoy in collaboration with Knockout Boxing, Harmony Vida, The Wave Fitness and Velo, as well as spinning classes on the stadium balcony throughout the day.
The Family Zone at Oxygen Park will host the Career Heroes Team Challenge, with teams of five racing against the clock to solve career-themed puzzles, while the Horses and Reading Pavilion in collaboration with QF’s Al Shaqab and Qatar National Library’s Qatar Reads initiative will offer a unique experience with two pony rides for children and two adult horseback riding sessions.
At Education City’s Ceremonial Court, visitors can enjoy an array of HIIT, Yoga and Pilates classes. Schools under QF’s Pre-University Education will offer dedicated spaces in the Family Zone for the public to enjoy, including activities for individuals with disabilities by QF’s Ability Friendly programme like football, basketball and playball in the morning, followed by Kickboxing in the afternoon. The popular Torba Farmers Market will also be open throughout the day.
Education City will be car-free on National Sport Day in line with QF’s dedication to sustainability. Visitors can park in the Academy Car Park or Oxygen Park Parking, and use the Education City Tram or simply walk to nearby activities, the QF official said.
