Hour and Hour Programme focuses on Qatari heritage at Garangao celebrations
Lusail Boulevard recently hosted the Garangao Night event, organised by Hour and Hour Programme under the slogan 'Our Identity in Our Heritage.'
The event, in collaboration with Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company and Al Sailiya Sports Club, witnessed a large turnout of families and children who enjoyed various performances and activities designed to celebrate Qatari traditions.
The evening commenced with a performance of Garangao Chants by students from Maimouna Primary School for Girls, followed by a theatrical reenactment of the story The Kingdom of Garangao by Qatari writer Asmaa al-Kuwari, presented by students from Qatar Academy – Sidra. The performance captivated the audience with its creative storytelling inspired by Qatari heritage.
Students from Khawla bint Al-Azwar Primary School for Girls presented traditional showcases, leading up to the cultural competition Think and Answer, hosted by media person Ibrahim al-Jefairi and student Maitha Al-Yafei. Children were delighted to meet their favourite characters from the animated series Siraj. Students from Maimouna Primary School for Girls entertained the audience with The Young Broadcaster show and a puppet theater show.
The event also featured a diverse range of activities that highlighted Qatari heritage. Visitors explored the Qatari tent and enjoyed storytelling sessions led by Amina al-Badr, which revived the art of traditional narration.
The traditional cuisine corner, hosted by chef Lulwa al-Dosari, allowed attendees to taste authentic Qatari dishes. Besides, families and children were drawn to folk performances, traditional games, falconry, and pony rides.
The event also showcased an art and calligraphy exhibition organised by Gallery 38 Katara, displaying works inspired by the Qatari culture.
A number of interactive workshops provided children and youth with hands-on experiences in heritage-inspired crafts. Activities included pottery painting, pencil sketching, hand-painted bags, wooden crafts, Garangao box painting, and Ramadan lantern origami, organised by Maimouna Primary School.
The Technical Secondary School for Girls hosted creative workshops such as Race of Goodness, Ramadan Feather, and Garangao Bag – Made by Our Hands. A special exhibition featured artistic works and traditional crafts by individuals with special needs, including sewing, bisht weaving, tawash crafting, perfume making and others.
Renowned Qatari artisans, including Dhabiya al-Humaidi, Ilham Al-Ansari Boutique, and Beshout Al-Salem, participated in this unique showcase.
The Youth Council and Youth Division of Al Sailiya Sports Club hosted interactive games and competitions. The Primary Health Care Corporation presented some awareness sessions focused on healthy eating habits and physical activity.
Tamani al-Yafei, CEO of Hour and Hour programme, stressed the event aimed to instill national identity in future generations through interactive activities that combine education and entertainment.
