In partnership with Msheirib Properties, the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) is set to present a concert featuring Gulf folk music today at 7.30pm, in Al Baraha Square at Msheireb Downtown Doha.

The programme will include premieres of compositions by the QPO's deputy executive director and noted vocalist and composer Dr Nasser Sahim, who plays a vital role in safeguarding Qatar's traditional musical heritage.

The concert has a variety of styles, including Liwa dances, Adsani music, Al Fareesa Ashoury, and Khamari music.

This fusion of Gulf folklore integrates various performing arts, such as traditional music, dance, and theatrical performances.

"Through my deep passion for Qatari music and heritage, I am proud to have played an active role in merging Qatar's musical culture and folklore with the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra in an innovative musical form that blends the spirit of Gulf authenticity with classical orchestration," Dr Sahim said.

"Through my work, I have endeavoured to build a musical cultural bridge that reflects Qatar's artistic identity and presents it to the world in a modern style without losing its traditional lustre,” he said. “I have reworked Gulf folkloric pieces with orchestral arrangements that enhance their artistic value and give them a new dimension from which future generations can be inspired by the spirit of creativity and pride in their musical identity.”

"This musical fusion is not just a fleeting artistic experience, but a step towards establishing a global Gulf musical legacy that is able to continue and evolve, while preserving the essence of Qatari culture and its place among the peoples,” Dr Sahim added. “I believe that music, as a force that brings people together, can be a way to take our cultural heritage to new horizons that reflect our diversity And culture richness."
