Shell Eco-marathon Asia-Pacific and the Middle East awards winners

The first-ever Shell Eco-marathon in the Middle East concluded at the Lusail International Circuit in Qatar.The event brought together student teams from around the world to showcase their innovative, energy-efficient vehicles. The competition was fierce, with teams demonstrating exceptional creativity, engineering skills, and teamwork. After several days of intense competition, the winners were announced in a grand awards ceremony.The top honours in the Prototype category went to Universitas Negeri Malang (Internal Combustion Engine); Universitas Indonesia (Hydrogen Fuel Cell); and Diponegoro University, all from Indonesia whose ultra-efficient, lightweight vehicles achieved astonishing distances using minimal fuel.The team from Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (Internal Combustion Engine); and Universitas Udayana, also from Indonesia, clinched the first place in the Urban Concept category with their vehicles that closely resembled a passenger car and featured advanced energy-saving technologies.Rob Maxwell, managing director of Shell Companies Qatar, said: "We are thrilled with the outcome of the first-ever Shell Eco-marathon in the Middle East.The level of innovation and collaboration we witnessed was extraordinary. Your hard work and passion for sustainable engineering are commendable.”Shell Eco-marathon Asia-Pacific and the Middle East not only highlighted the technical prowess of the student teams but also emphasised the importance of sustainability and innovation in addressing future energy challenges. At the event, attendees were able to test drive a specially designed Shell Eco-marathon vehicle running on gas-to-liquids fuel made in Qatar.
