The Department of Religious Guidance at the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs has hosted “Fasting Child” Festival for 1446 AH/2025.
The festival saw 170 Qatari students, aged between 5-11, taking part in an interactive environment designed to teach them about the practice of fasting, its rules and etiquettes, and to encourage them to fast during the month of Ramadan.
The assistant director of the Department Religious Guidance, Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz al-Thani, stated that the event is part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to instil religious and moral values in children, preparing them spiritually for the holy month of Ramadan through fun, educational activities and interactive competitions that are both engaging and enjoyable.
He emphasised that the festival provides a valuable opportunity to introduce children to the pillars and obligations of fasting, promote values like patience, self-discipline, and empathy for those in need, and foster a sense of social solidarity.
Dr Ahmed al-Furajabi also highlighted the importance of gradually introducing children to fasting, taking into consideration their age and physical abilities.
He stressed that fasting is not merely about abstaining from food and drink; it is a way to teach patience, self-control, and understanding the struggles of others.
The festival included a variety of educational activities, such as fasting-themed competitions, physical games, and interactive sessions designed to teach religious concepts in an age-appropriate manner.
Students from Al Noor Qur’anic Educational Centre also took part in some of the segments and activities.
This year’s festival also welcomed new participants from organisations such as the General Authority for Minors’ Affairs, The Orphan Care Centre “Dreama”, Barzan Youth Club, Suamaisma & Aldaayen Youth Centre, Qatar Sports Club, Al Rayyan Club, Al Khor Club, Al Arabi Club, and Al Kaaban Youth.
This broadened the event’s reach and enriched the experience for all involved.
At the end of the festival, students who demonstrated enthusiasm and dedication during the activities and competitions were recognised, and all participants received encouragement gifts to motivate them to continue upholding the values learned during the event.
The “Fasting Child” festival is one of the ministry’s signature annual initiatives, aimed at children fasting for the first time.
It reflects the ministry’s commitment to strengthening the Islamic identity of young people and motivating them to follow Islamic teachings through engaging and fun educational methods.
