Qatar affirms its firm position in supporting the unity and sovereignty of Sudan and rejecting any interference in its internal affairs

The State of Qatar affirmed its firm and steadfast position in supporting the unity, independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the sisterly Republic of Sudan, and rejecting any form of interference in its internal affairs, renewing its keenness to enhance cooperation with the United Nations and various humanitarian agencies and organizations to enable them to address all challenges and difficulties facing the implementation of their humanitarian programs and activities in Sudan. It also called on the international community to redouble its efforts and provide more urgent support and adequate funding for the Sudan Humanitarian Response Plan and the Regional Refugee Plan.This came in the statement of the State of Qatar, delivered by Her Excellency Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al-Muftah, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar in Geneva, at the joint launch meeting of the Sudan Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan and the Regional Refugee Response Plan in Sudan for the year 2025.Her Excellency pointed out that the State of Qatar, since the beginning of the crisis, and based on its humanitarian and fraternal duty, has been keen to continue providing all forms of support and humanitarian assistance to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people. It also participated in sponsoring the "High-Level Pledging Conference to Support the Humanitarian Response to Sudan and the Region" in 2023, in addition to launching an air bridge to deliver humanitarian aid to the Sudanese brothers and evacuate a number of Qatari residency holders.Her Excellency noted that the total contributions of the State of Qatar to brotherly Sudan since the outbreak of the war amounted to more than seventy-five million US dollars, including providing humanitarian and development aid, providing food baskets to those in need, providing support to enhance the capabilities of the Sudanese Red Crescent, protecting and restoring family ties, providing necessary assistance in the Republic of South Sudan to those who arrived there as a result of fleeing the conflict in Sudan, and supporting employment and work projects by supporting agriculture and enhancing food security for vulnerable groups affected by conflicts. Qatari humanitarian charitable organizations such as Qatar Charity, the Qatar Red Crescent, and Silatech have also contributed to providing many relief and development aids in various fields.Her Excellency expressed the deep concern that the State of Qatar continues to feel regarding the ongoing war in Sudan since April 2023, which has caused an unprecedented catastrophic deterioration in the humanitarian, economic, social and security conditions throughout the country, in addition to the severe damage to the infrastructure, the collapse of many services, especially education and health, and the increasing numbers of people in need of relief assistance and the numbers of displaced persons and refugees, the majority of whom are children and women.The Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar in Geneva stressed that this situation requires the parties to the conflict to give priority to the national interest of Sudan, work to cease fire immediately, facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need, protect civilians and civilian facilities, and enter into a serious dialogue that spares the country further risks, prepares for a comprehensive dialogue that leads to sustainable peace, preserves Sudan's unity, and achieves the aspirations of its people for security, stability, and development.Her Excellency thanked the organizers of the meeting, and noted the efforts made by the United Nations to help the brotherly Sudanese people, alleviate their humanitarian suffering, and meet their needs, which are increasing day after day, noting that Sudan is classified today as one of the largest humanitarian crises, and the number of people in need of humanitarian assistance is estimated at about 30 million people.
