His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani’s visit to Tehran demonstrates the vigorous and outstanding bilateral relations, said Qatar’s ambassador to Iran Saad Abdullah Saad al-Mahmoud al-Sharif.
Speaking to QNA, the ambassador added the visit on Wednesday sets sights on better economic, trade and investment relations and brings to the fore regional and international issues of shared concern.
His Highness’ visit is highly important given the two nations’ commitment to buttressing bilateral partnerships for the interest of the two peoples, and to further co-ordinating on the regional and international issues, the ambassador added.
Highlighting the mutual trust between the two sides, Al-Sharif recalled a September 2023 Qatar-mediated prisoner exchange between the US and Iran, a deal that also saw Iranian assets in Korea unfrozen.
Also part of the solid foundations to propel bilateral relations, he added, are MoUs across cultural, scientific, economic, industrial and commercial areas and the joint committees that follow up on joint co-operation.
He also spotlighted the many Iranian firms operating in the Qatari markets, and the 16 weekly flights between the two countries.
The ambassador referred to Doha’s hosting of the 10th Joint Economic Co-operation Commission in December 2024, which addressed multi-sector co-operation avenues and culminated in both sides approving measures to cement trade, investment and industrial co-operation — to push ahead the trade exchange volume and streamline the flow of goods, services and investments.
Iranian ambassador to Qatar Dr Ali Salehabadi emphasised that His Highness the Amir’s visit is a continuation of the deep-rooted relations built on mutual trust and shared interests between the two countries.
In remarks to QNA, the ambassador said the Amir’s visit is a clear indication of the two countries’ unflagging determination to bolster the bilateral relationship.
He pointed out that the bilateral meetings between the leaderships of the two nations offer a platform to augment the political, security and economic co-operation based on the joint political visions to peacefully resolve regional conflicts through effective, constructive and influential diplomacy as part of the two nations’ unwavering commitment to deepening bilateral ties and significantly enhancing the persistent bilateral cooperation and coordination. Dr Salehabadi lauded Qatar’s crisis-resolution efforts and initiatives under the leadership of His Highness the Amir, particularly its recognised efforts in the Gaza Strip. He added His Highness the Amir had exerted invaluable efforts to stand in defence of humanity, especially throughout the crisis in Gaza.
Dr Salehabadi highlighted that the recent visit of Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian to Doha constituted a turning point in advancing bilateral co-operation during which vital agreements were signed to co-operate in the political, economic and cultural areas.
