

Egypt’s Supreme Council of Universities has approved a decision to establish a branch of the Cairo University in Doha.This was revealed by the media adviser and official spokesperson for the Egyptian ministry of higher education and scientific research, Dr Adel Abdel Ghaffar, who said that the necessary legal measures are being taken in this regard.Arabic daily Arrayah reported that the council held its regular meeting Saturday, headed by Dr Ayman Ashour.Dr Ashour stressed that enhancing the role of innovation is at the top of the priorities of the current stage, in line with the state’s interest in maximising the role of universities in developing the economy.This, he said, is to be accomplished by providing a stimulating climate for knowledge production and enhancing scientific research, and by increasing co-operation between universities and the industrial and business community.This in turn contributes to supporting the state’s competitiveness regionally and globally, which Dr Ashour said allows the state to benefit from scientific research in facing economic challenges, and achieve the goals of sustainable development and Egypt’s National Vision 2030.
