In preparation for the holy month of Ramadan, the Sheikh Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Centre (Fanar), affiliated with the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, has launched the "Welcome Ramadan" programme.

The programme, according to an official statement from Awqaf, includes multilingual awareness lectures targeting non-Arabic speaking Muslim communities.

This programme comes in co-ordination with the Department of Mosques and Imam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab Mosque.

A series of awareness lectures are held on welcoming Ramadan. These include lectures on the importance of the Holy Qura’n and various educational issues intending to enhance religious awareness and strengthen the faith aspect of Muslim communities before the advent of the holy month.

Fanar is also keen to hold these lectures in various mosques to ensure that awareness messages reach the target groups in their gathering places.

Since its launch, the programme has witnessed a great turnout from the Urdu-speaking community.

Nearly 3,000 persons attended the first series of lectures presented by preacher Khalil al-Rahman Sajjad al-Numani. This series included four lectures, the first of which was held in the centre’s hall while the second was in Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al Thani Mosque in the Old Airport area. The third and the fourth were held in Maryam bint Khalifa Al-Attiyah Mosque in Ibn Omran area and Al-Qaid Al-Kabir Mosque in Doha Al Jadeeda.

The programme includes a number of lectures directed to different communities under the title ‘Welcome Ramadan’. The lectures are presented in Urdu, Tamil, Malay, Pashto, Filipino, Amharic, and Malay by the centre's preachers and its co-operating preachers.

Also, various preaching programmes will be held at Fanar and a number of mosques during Iftar in order to enhance the spirit of social solidarity and religious awareness and enable communities to understand the rulings of Ramadan.
