Katara – the Cultural Village held the celebration of Garangao Night Friday, marking the most prominent heritage event in the middle of Ramadan.
The 8.30pm event at both the Katara Corniche and the open-air theatre attracted a large crowd of families.
The event aligned with Katara’s commitment to preserving Qatari and Gulf heritage and strengthening cultural identity across generations through activities that blend authenticity with tradition, a statement said.
The celebration saw a large turnout of visitors with children dressed in traditional attire and singing Garangao songs.
Bags filled with nuts and sweets were distributed to reinforce this Qatari custom.
Garangao Night is one of the most significant Ramadan traditions in Qatar and the Gulf countries, filling the streets with a joyful festive atmosphere.
Children dressed in vibrant traditional clothing roam the neighbourhood, singing songs while carrying decorated bags to collect sweets and nuts from family and neighbours.
This celebration embodies values of generosity and joy while strengthening social bonds within the community.
Katara is keen on providing a special experience for families and children, helping to introduce new generations to the authenticity of this tradition and strengthen their connection to their cultural heritage, the statement added.
