Indian socio-cultural organisation, Qatar Tamizhar Sangam (QTS), organised a prize distribution and felicitation ceremony for its Young Farmers competition, held from October 18, 2024 to February 28, 2025.
The aim was to educate the youth about the importance of agriculture and raise awareness on the need to safeguard farming practices. The contest, open to participants aged 4-18, required them to raise a plant and report its progress on a weekly basis.
The chief guest for the event was entrepreneur Andi Giri, the past president of Washington Tamil Sangam and president of Aims India foundation from 2000. He shared his knowledge in agriculture and motivated the young farmers to continue their learning in agriculture. The special guest, Omar Shamseldein shared his experiences in promoting agriculture among Sudanese students in Qatar.
QTS management committee member Bramma Kumar anchored the event. The function started with Tamil Thai Vazhthu. President Muniyappan appreciated the efforts and guidance of vice-president Paramasivam Ramesh and co-ordinators Manju and Punitha for their continuous monitoring and guidance of the young farmers.
Past president Manibarathi highlighted the importance of agriculture and motivated the young farmers while urging their parents to grow vegetables in their garden. More than 45 young farmers were awarded with trophies for their continuous efforts and passion towards farming. Best five young farmers were awarded with prizes. Farmers from the agricultural sector in Qatar were invited as special guests and honoured during the event.
