The Sheikh Jassim bin Muhammad bin Thani Noble Qur'an Competition of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) honoured all converts who participated in the 11th edition of the competition for the new converts' category, with approximately 200 male and female contestants from African and Asian communities residing in Qatar.
Organising committee chairperson Malallah Abdulrahman al-Jaber said that the new converts category was part of the effort to engage converts in the Holy Qur'an contests to enhance fraternity and solidarity among them, in addition to strengthening their faith, teaching them the Holy Qur'an and its teachings, integrating them into the Islamic community, fostering fraternity, instilling correct Islamic precepts, and teaching Arabic as the key to understanding the Qur'an.
The organisation of this category is carried out in collaboration with the Sheikh Abdulla bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Centre (Fanar) in Doha, which serves the communities residing in Qatar, promotes Islamic culture, teaches Arabic to non-native speakers, and supports the education of new Muslims in religious matters and the Holy Qur'an.
The ceremony featured a video presentation showcasing the new Muslims' Quranic tests, along with remarks from several participants who expressed their joy in diligently memorising the Qur'an and the positive impact it has had on their lives.
They also expressed their commitment to the competition and acknowledged the efforts of Awqaf, the organising committee, and the Fanar.
At the closing ceremony, al-Jaber presented certificates of appreciation to six outstanding participants and took a group photo with all the new Muslims who participated in the event.
Following the event, the organising committee distributed certificates and rewards to all participants, with cash rewards varying according to the level of memorisation, performance, and recitation across the three categories. – QNA
