Competitors delivered a thrilling competition as the fourth and penultimate round of the Qatar Drag Racing Championship (QDRC) concluded at Qatar Racing Club (QRC) at the weekend.
The event is held under the patronage of QRC Chairman HE Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad al-Thani. The round saw a slight change in the competition schedule, with the organising committee offering participants three qualifying sessions instead of just two.
Based on the results of these sessions, competitors were placed in the elimination rounds for the eight categories in the championship.
At the end of the competition, none of the leaders from the qualifying sessions in the Index categories were able to continue their path to winning the round title.
The final race in the Super Street category for cars saw a repeat of the past two rounds, featuring Turki al-Dhufairi and Badr al-Sharshani. In this race, al-Dhufairi secured his third title of the season.
The win marked al-Dhufairi’s fourth podium finish in the championship, having placed third in the opening round, making him one of the top contenders to clinch the season title.
In the Street Bike category, the final race brought together series leader Mohammed Bou Rashid and Mousa al-Baloushi, who was participating in his first round. Ultimately, Bou Rashid claimed his third title and his fourth podium finish, as he had previously placed third in the last round.
The Index categories, which compete over a quarter-mile distance and consist of 4 categories, witnessed intense final races. Hisham al-Awadhi managed to win the (INDEX 10.00) category after defeating competitor Ali Haji in the final race.
This marks al-Awadhi’s third title, bringing him much closer to winning the championship title this season.
In the (INDEX 9.00) category, after two third-place finishes, Mohammed Zaman reached the final race of this round and secured his first-ever title by defeating the winner of the opening round, Musabeh Ali al-Kaabi.
Similarly, in the (INDEX 8.5) category for cars, the title went to Rakan Ali al-Ajmi, securing his second consecutive win, this time defeating competitor Ahmed Sarhan.
In the same category for motorcycles, the final race featured the runner-up from the opening round, Saoud al-Wahibi, and competitor Hussein Ashkanani with the former emerging victorious.
Meanwhile, the (INDEX 4.80) category final brought together Mustafa Atat and Zayed al-Baloushi, with al-Baloushi claiming his first victory of the season. Atat returned for a second final race in this round, this time in the (INDEX 4.50) category, where he faced the winner of the opening round, Rashid al-Baloushi.
Atat won this race, claiming his first title in this category.
QRC Director-General Sheikh Jabor bin Khalid al-Thani crowned the winners of the top three positions in each category. The fifth and final round will begin on Wednesday with testing and qualifying sessions.
