The Sheikh Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Centre (Fanar) at the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs is organising numerous events and activities during Ramadan, including seminars and lectures in Bengali, Russian, and English.
According to an official statement from Awqaf, the end of the first week of the holy month witnessed three forums for various non-Arabic-speaking communities in Qatar.
These events, organised by Fanar’s Department of Islamic Introduction, included a special Ramadan Forum at Fanar’s headquarters for the Russian community, which was attended by 94 Russian-speaking people.
The event discussed fasting and its status in Islam and Ramadan customs in Qatar, including the religious and social aspects associated with the holy month.
The event concluded with a traditional Qatari Iftar to introduce the cultural aspect of the holy month and some of its related customs.
The Islam Introduction Department also organised the Ramadan Forum for the English-speaking community, which was attended by 147 people.
Preacher Yusuf Chambers delivered a lecture on the meaning of mercy in the holy month of Ramadan.
The Ramadan Forum programme concluded with a traditional Qatari Iftar aiming to introduce attendees to local Ramadan culture and customs.
The lecture for the Malayalam-speaking community was delivered by preacher Muhammad Aslam, who spoke about the spirit of Ramadan and its status as a religious ritual and a pillar of Islam.
The lecture was attended by 900 Malayalam speakers.
Sheikh Yasser Arafat also gave another lecture at the same event on “Ramadan and Human Life”, discussing the positive changes Ramadan brings about in the lives of Muslims.
At the special lecture for the Bangladeshi community, titled “The Most Prominent Historical Events in Ramadan”, the lecturer discussed the most important Islamic historical events during the holy month, beginning with the Battle of Badr.
He also touched on other historical events related to Ramadan.
The lecture was attended by Bangladesh ambassador Muhammad Nazrul Islam.
The lecture for the Oromo-speaking Ethiopian Muslim community, attended by 300 persons, was delivered by Sheikh Mohammed Abu Bakr, who addressed the rulings and issues of fasting and discussed the virtues of the holy month and its value in the life of a Muslim.
