The Iftar tents by the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs have fed 150,000 fasting persons during Ramadan.

According to an official statement from Awqaf, the tents host 5,000 fasting people daily.

The tents are open in labour dense areas as part of Awqaf’s Ifar Saem project.

They are at Al Muraikh, Al Attiyah at Industrial Area, Thursday and Friday Market at Ain Khalid, New Central Market at Al Sailiya, Eid Prayer Ground at Al Rayyan, opposite to Old Al Wakra Market at Al Wakra, Othman Mosque at Al Khor and Eid Prayer Grounds at Bin Omran and Al Aziziya.

Mohammed Yaqoub al-Ali, chairman of the Iftar Committee at Awqaf, said that the project aims to draw closer to God through this charitable work to revive the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH) in providing Iftar meals to those fasting and provide charitable people with the opportunity to earn the reward of providing Iftar meals.

It also aims to assist the needy and the poor in fulfilling the obligation of fasting, bring joy and happiness to the hearts of the poor and needy, and activate the endowments and contributions of charitable people through safe and appropriate channels.

“Iftar tents aim to highlight the tradition of social solidarity and cohesion in Islam, provide an opportunity for advocacy, awareness and education that benefits Qatari society, establish effective partnerships with official government agencies to serve the community and support and stimulate the local economy through such projects,” al-Ali said.

The Iftar tents are organised to ensure smooth service to fasting guests while meeting the highest quality standards.

Comfortable and air-conditioned areas are provided for those fasting, and comprehensive meals are served to meet their nutritional needs.

The Iftar Committee at Awqaf co-operates with several entities to ensure smooth operations.

Al-Ali said that the project is still accepting contributions from benefactors.
