The Qatar Calendar House announced Tuesday that, according to astronomical calculations, March 30, will be the first day of Shawwal and the first day of Eid al-Fitr 1446 AH.
It clarified in a statement that the legal decision regarding the beginning of Shawwal 1446 AH remains the responsibility of the Crescent Sighting Committee at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.
Faisal al-Ansari, Executive Director of the Qatar Calendar House, stated that the crescent moon for this year's Shawwal will be born on the evening of March 29 at 1.58 pm Doha local time.
