Further, three mobile waste transfer stations were in place for use during these events.
The ministry continued its public awareness campaigns on related issues such as Qatar Zero Waste campaign. A number of quizzes and competitions on related themes were conducted as well.
Four editions of the waste recycling and sustainability conference and exhibition were held with 40 exhibitors and 40 speakers in each edition, and featuring excellent scientific papers and research.
The Domestic Solid Waste Management Centre in Mesaieed, operated by the ministry and considered the largest in its category in the Middle East, won the prize for the best project of waste to energy from the GCC in the field of municipal work.
The centre has received 660,000 tonnes of transferred waste from different stations, and more than 730,000 tonnes of household and solid waste. It has produced more than 277,000 megawatt/an hour of clean energy, in addition to 40,000 tonnes of fertilisers, and 27,000 tonnes of recyclable waste materials were sorted.
The ministry also launched a project to dispose of the stock of damaged tyres, which is considered unique in its category within the region. As many as 120,000 damaged tyres were taken by the factories for recycling tyres. There are four factories in the country to recycle tyres.
The ministry has allocated 51 land plots for recycling factories. Around 3.5mn tonnes of the construction materials were produced from recycled construction waste. The waste removal permits are now issued digitally with more than 20,000 issued in 2024.
