The Arab League's technical secretariat of Arab Coordination Mechanism for Disaster Risk Reduction marked, via video conference on Thursday, the Arab Day for Disaster Risk Reduction 2025 under the theme 'A Resilient Arab Society in the Face of Disasters', presented by National Focal Point for Disaster Risk Reduction in the State of Qatar.
Head of disaster risk reduction at the General Secretariat of the Arab League Mustafa Saadi Al Jubouri, in a statement to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), said that the Arab League selects a theme to celebrate the Arab Day for Disaster Risk Reduction on March 21 each year. This year's theme 'A Resilient Arab Society in the Face of Disasters', presented by the State of Qatar to observe this special day, reflects the current stage of the Arab region. He pointed out that the State of Qatar was chosen to present this year's theme after its proposal was approved, and was adopted by all media outlets, platforms, and member states of the Arab League.
He added that the celebration of the Arab Day for Disaster Risk Reduction aims to highlight the role of communities in preparing for and responding to disasters and to increase momentum in disaster risk reduction, considering that civil society and citizens are the foundation of any collective action and effort.
On August 21, 2024, the State of Qatar chaired the second meeting at the level of Arab ministers concerned with disaster risk reduction that was held at the headquarters of Arab League in Cairo. The meeting discussed the draft decisions of the sixth meeting of the Arab Coordination Mechanism for Disaster Risk Reduction. The theme for the Arab Day for Disaster Risk Reduction 2025, 'A Resilient Arab Society in the Face of Disasters', proposed by Qatar's National Focal Point during the session, was also approved.
