Qatar Museums (QM) has announced the opening of applications for its Temporary Public Art Initiative for university students and graduates to participate in creating a public artwork that reflects their creativity and artistic vision.
The initiative aims to support young talents and provide them with the opportunity to display their works in public spaces. It will also enhance the interaction between art and society. The deadline is fixed for May 20.
Proposals must be innovative and express distinct artistic concepts. They will be evaluated by a specialised committee of experts in the field. Winners will have the opportunity to produce and display their works to the public. They will be provided with a platform to further their artistic careers.
This initiative represents an important step in Qatar Museums' ongoing efforts to provide platforms for emerging talents to express themselves and contribute to community building.
Qatar Museums looks forward to seeing the innovative proposals and inspiring artworks that will develop from this programme.
Proposed works must meet specified criteria. Applicants must possess high-level skills to implement their proposed projects. Applicants are also eligible for support from a mentor to ensure their projects are successfully completed.
Proposals may include sculptures, installations, mixed media, and similar artworks. All proposed artworks must be locally produced. Students can submit their proposals individually or in groups.
The maximum budget for each project will be QR30,000, and selected artists will collaborate with a curator throughout the project.
Liwan, a design studio and lab located in a historic building in Msheireb Downtown Doha, supports Qatar's creative community by providing state-of-the-art facilities for various design disciplines. It provides them with the necessary resources to advance their work, including modern labs for ceramics, leatherwork, digital photography, and prototyping.
