The National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ), in co-operation with the Qatar Calendar House, has launched the "Phases of the Moon" event.

This event celebrates the holy month and promotes scientific and cultural awareness through interactive visual displays that highlight the different phases of the moon and their astronomical and religious significance.

The event offers an immersive experience for the public, allowing them to follow the daily lunar cycle through the outer walls of the NMoQ, along with simplified scientific explanations of the mechanism of the moon's changing shape during the lunar month.

This collaboration between the NMoQ and the Qatar Calendar House stems from a shared vision aimed at spreading astronomical culture and raising awareness of the importance of the moon in the lives of Muslims, both from a religious and scientific perspective.

The moon is linked to the timing of Islamic rituals, such as fasting and Hajj, and is also a symbol of time in the Hijri calendar.

The moon has long been an integral part of the cultural heritage of Qatar and the Arab world, where ancestors used it to determine the seasons.

The moon is also present in ancient poetry and mythology

It also represents an opportunity to introduce new generations to the importance of astronomy in our daily lives.
