The first edition of the Doha Schools Diamond League, organised by the Qatar Athletics Federation, kicked off in the presence of former middle-distance runner Mo Farah of the UK at the Suheim Bin Hamad Stadium on Sunday.
The Diamond League is seeing the participation of 10 schools: Al Khor International School, the Jordanian School, the Egyptian Language School, the Syrian School, the Eadad International Academy, Newton International School, Lycee Bonaparte, Sherborne Qatar, King’s College Doha and Doha College.
The Qatar Athletics Federation said that the Doha Schools Diamond League is part of the Federation’s strategic steps to support and nurture emerging talents in community, international, and private schools in Doha, to promote athletics and widen its popularity.
Running for two days, the tournament is featuring track and field competitions.
Top performers in the Doha Schools Diamond League will have the opportunity to participate in local races to be held alongside the Diamond League – Doha to be held on May 16, with the participation of a lineup of world champions, Olympic and world medallists and world record holders in various races from around the globe.
