Qatari padel teams bowed out in the first round of the Qatar Padel Grand Prix 2025, which kicked off on Monday at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.
Mohammed Saadoun al-Kuwari and Hassan Adel were defeated by the Spanish-Argentine pair of Miro Castillo and Ignacio Alborno in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. Rayan Abdullah and Abdullah al-Hajji lost 6-0, 6-0 to the Spanish duo of Anton Sans and Marc Quins. In a more closely contested match, Meshari Nawaf and Rashed Nawaf claimed the first set in a tiebreak but could not maintain momentum, eventually falling 6-7, 6-0, 6-3 to Spain’s Mario Hernandez and Mexico’s Dennis Thomas. Despite the early exits, the home teams gained exposure on padel’s biggest stage, facing off against seasoned international competitors.
The tournament, organised by the Qatar Tennis, Squash, Padel, and Badminton Federation, opened with the men’s and women’s Round of 64. A total of 48 men’s and 40 women’s teams are competing across six specially prepared courts. The Round of 32 gets underway on Tuesday, with the world’s top 10 ranked men and women entering the tournament after receiving byes into the second round.
In the women’s draw, Egypt’s Laila El Nemr and Mora Hakim fell to Spain’s Maria Rodriguez and Requel Barrera, 6-2, 6-1. Spain’s Morito Perez and Herlano Navarro defeated the Omani-Spanish duo of Fatima al-Nabhani and Portillo Perez, 6-0, 6-1.
The Ooredoo Qatar Padel Grand Prix is the largest event on the Premier Padel World Tour. The tour features 25 tournaments across 18 countries and five continents, reflecting the sport’s continued global rise.

The tournament, organised by the Qatar Tennis, Squash, Padel, and Badminton Federation, opened with the men’s and women’s Round of 64 matches.
