| Issa Ali: Qatarisation pledge |
Among the companies that have evinced interest in guiding the nationals to employment and other opportunities at the fair are Qtel, Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company, HSBC Qatar and Mashreq Qatar.
A dedicated HR team from Qtel will be present at the event every day this year, talking to young Qatari nationals and helping them to plan their future careers.
Qtel’s presence at QCF 2011 is shaped around the slogan, “We all have a dream, what is yours?”
As a company with deep roots in Qatar, the development and creation of opportunities for Qatari nationals is at the heart of Qtel’s long-term recruitment and training strategies. Dedicated programmes include the Qatari Graduate Development Programme, specialised Customer Service and administration programmes, scholarships and sponsorships and a popular summer internship programme for high school and university students.
Qtel Human Resources specialists will be on hand at the company’s booth throughout this week to introduce visitors with the range of careers available.
In addition to getting guidance on career opportunities at Qtel, fair-goers could submit their resumes or fill in an application at the Qtel booth in the Business and Finance zone, G3.
HSBC Qatar said the bank had supported the Ministry of Labour in its Qatarisation drive and had invested in a number of programmes that it felt guaranteed sustainable development of the local talent pool. The bank’s senior manager (human resources) Issa Ali said: “For students who are still studying at different levels, HSBC offers sponsorships, scholarships and internships. All these programmes give students an opportunity to have work experience while they are still studying.”
In co-ordination with the Ministry of Labour, HSBC will identify a number of banking trainees who will be employed by the bank while they are receiving further training at one of the reputable universities in Qatar.
Kahramaa’s HR department has a programme to increase the number of Qatari employees by 2% per year over the next five years, thus increasing the representation of Qatari youth to 52% by 2013. “The corporation’s main interest is in increasing the investment in the qualified Qatari individual,” said a Kahramaa spokesman.
Kahramaa is the Gold Sponsor of the fair.
Speaking on the Career Fair, Qatari Diar’s chief administration officer Abdullatif Mohamed al-Noaimi said: “We invite Qatari graduates and job seekers to visit our stand to know more about the job opportunities that our company offers.”
Al Noaimi said the exhibition presented a great opportunity for students to learn more about our projects. “At this exhibition we will focus on one of our most promising enterprises, Lusail City,” he said.
Country head for Mashreq Qatar Howard Kitson said: “In line with Qatar National Vision 2030, Mashreq Qatar is dedicated to investing in and developing the Qatari workforce, using an effective mix of education, on-the-job training, and professional development.”
He said: “Being an active participant at the QCF is just one of the steps that we are taking towards becoming recognised as the best bank for the development of young bankers and creating a sustainable talent pipeline of Qatari nationals.”
