Japanese Ambassador to Qatar Kenjiro Monji has lauded the Doha Film Institute (DFI) for screening films from his country at the just concluded Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF).
The ambassador said this at the screening of Japanese film My Neighbour Totoro at Katara Drama Theatre.
The function also had the participation of DFI CEO Abdulaziz bin Khalid al-Khater and Head of International Programming of the DFI Ludmila Cvikova.
Monji said My Neighbour Totoro is in fact one of his favourite movies.
The festival featured as many as seven Japanese cinema showpieces to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Qatar-Japanese relations.
The ambassador said that Japan will actively participate in the forthcoming International Book Fair to be held between December 12 and 22 at the Doha Exhibitions Center.
At the ceremony, Monji formally handed over a baton to British embassy charge d’affaires Cecile El Beleidi and British Council director Martin Hope in honour of the recently launched Qatar-UK 2013,  a year-long celebration of the long-lasting friendship between Qatar and the UK.
Qatar-UK 2013 is being held in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the British Council, the British embassy in Doha, and the Qatari embassy in London.
