The general administration of Civil Defence supervised a mock fire drill at Sheraton Doha hotel yesterday. The exercise was conducted by the hotel’s safety and security officials.
The mock drill started with a ‘break out of smoke followed by fire at one of the rooms and the subsequent sounding of the warning bell.’
Immediately, the safety staff started giving instructions to the employees as well as guests, through the public address system, to evacuate the hotel through the emergency exits.
They supervised the evacuation process and guided the guests and employees towards the safe assembly point. As soon as the mock alert was received by the Civil Defence, the fire extinguishing and rescue personnel form Wadi Sail station rushed to the site. The Civil Defence team found that the safety and security staffers of the hotel had prevented the fire successfully and ensured there were no victims and missing people.
General Directorate of Civil Defence’s operations department director Brigadier Hamad al-Duhaimi and head of Azeezia fire station and fire extinguishing officer at Civil Defence Captain Khamees Salim al-Suwaidi supervised the drill, held with the participation of Al Fazaa police and Ambulance Service of Hamad Medical Corporation.
The mock drill was organised as a part of the plan of Civil Defence for raising the standard of awareness among the employees of various establishments of the country in order to train them on how to deal with risks and fire and improve the capability of staffers concerned in applying safety procedures in those
establishments.
