Ministry of Culture to take part in sports day activities
The Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage will join in the celebrations of the National Sport Day 2013, on February 12 with a line up of sport activities, it was announced.The decision to participate reflects the Ministry’s belief in the importance of sports and the constant efforts to make sports a part of the community culture as a fundamental approach for the nation development.The proposed programme, whose details will be announced soon, will include sport competitions held in a number of youth centres affiliated to the Ministry, in addition to sport matches between different Ministry departments. A special programme will also be available for ladies.The decision to form a Sport Day activities committee was taken by the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage HE Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz al-Kuwari. The committee is headed by Youth Centres director Abdul Razak bin Abdullah al-Kuwari and members include Administrative and Financial Affairs director Jaber bin Saeed Hamidi, Public Relations and Communications head Khalifa bin Abdulrahman al-Hail, Activities and Youth Events director Abdul Rahman bin Mohamed al-Hajri and Mohamed Issa al-Jaber representing the Management of Culture. The National Sport Day, which enhances the objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030, is central to the country’s commitment to sport, in addition to the ‘Schools Olympic Programme’, which encourages schoolchildren to practice sport as an integral part of their daily life. The National Sport Day is celebrated every second Tuesday of February and is an initiative adopted by the Deputy Emir and Heir Apparent HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.Across the country, ministries, government departments, public and private sector organisations and sports clubs will be organising sporting activities for all on February 12.The event aims to create awareness about sports and its health benefits.
