Qtel celebrated the achievements of its young, talented future leaders at the recent sixth annual Young Talent Event.
Held under the theme of Connecting the Leaders of Today with the Leaders of Tomorrow, the evening recognised the performance and academic achievement of Qtel’s students, recent graduates, developees and trainees, best coaches, and employees who had completed the highest number of e-learning modules in the year.
Sheikh Saud bin Nasser al-Thani, CEO of Qtel-Qatar, said: “We hope to continue to attract the ‘cream of the crop’ of young Qatari nationals, people who will help move Qtel towards its strategic goal of becoming the preferred choice for world-class communication services in Qatar.”
Executives at the event emphasised that the company is laying the foundation for Qatar’s knowledge-based economy, and it is the young talent who are driving the company’s growth.
Qtel has invested significantly in its Qatarisation programme to identify, develop and retain young Qatari nationals in all positions. Qtel chief corporate services officer Mohamed al-Kuwari, who spoke at the event, told the audience: “You will be leading Qtel well into the 21st century and experiencing an exciting new world of communications. As we strive to be the employer of choice in Qatar, we continue to invest in our young employees who are embarking on long-lasting and rewarding careers with Qtel.”
Buthaina al-Ansari, senior director of human resources at Qtel, said: “This was a successful event that celebrated the efforts of our young talent. Their enthusiasm and dedication as they ascend to leadership positions will help Qtel retain its position as a leading communications brand. Our investment in programmes for young talent is helping define Qtel as an employer of choice.”
Qtel supports around 110 training programmes for all employees, including HEC-Paris in Qatar’s The Value Leader leadership programme, the Institute of Leadership and Management Certification (ILM) and the Cambridge Professional Academy UK’s Chartered Institute of Marketing certification (CIM).
The company also offers overseas training with visits to Qtel Group operating companies. Attendees at the event enjoyed the Songs of Peace and Qatar, performed by young talent Ryanna, about the warmth and generosity of the country. They also had their questions answered at a panel discussion, networked with fellow young talent and prospective mentors from across the company, and received awards and gifts during a ceremony.
