Qatar Chemical and Petrochemical Marketing and Distribution Company (Muntajat) which has taken over the  marketing, sales and distribution of Seef products, now accounts for about 70% of the country’s chemical and petrochemical products’ export.

HE the Minister of Energy & Industry, Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada, who is also the chairman of Muntajat said: “Muntajat will play a key role in achieving Qatar’s National Vision 2030 by contributing to social, human, economic and environmental development.”

“Today, the petrochemical industry is a key driver of Qatar’s growth, positioning the country as a global player in this sector. The downstream products created by gas feedstock are delivering value by diversifying Qatar’s export portfolio beyond LNG.

“In fact, Qatar is well-positioned to become the world’s fourth largest chemical and petrochemical producer within the next decade through continued investment,” al-Sada said.

The marketing of Seef products by Muntajat is another step in raising the profile of the industry in Qatar and abroad, he added.

With effect from April 1, Muntajat assumed sole responsibility for the marketing of linear alkyl benzene (LAB) and heavy alkyl benzene (HAB) produced by Seef.

LAB is a raw material used in the production of detergents and considered to be less polluting.

Muntajat, which has started processing new orders for these products, has informed all existing Seef customers about the new service relationship.

It will create efficiencies in sales and distribution channels for LAB and HAB, which Seef produces at its $300mn state-of-the-art complex adjacent to the Qatar Petroleum Refinery at Mesaieed.

Muntajat CEO Abdulrahman Ali al-Abdulla said: “With our portfolio of products now exceeding two thirds of Qatar’s chemical and petrochemical production capacity, Muntajat is on track to achieve transition in the marketing, sales and distribution of all regulated Qatari chemical and petrochemical products by mid-year.

“Our team is committed to the continued supply of Qatar’s quality chemical and petrochemical products to its customers, and dedicated to the long-term creation of value for all our stakeholders.

“Muntajat is supported in the field by a team of professionals, creating world-class support and technical infrastructure to service our customers’ world-wide.”

He also said Muntajat has already processed a number of orders for customers in Australia, China, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, India, the UAE and South Africa to deliver Qafac and Qafco products.

Seef general manager Ahmed al-Hitmi said: “Seef is proud to be part of Qatar’s dynamic growth and investment strategy in the petrochemical industry.

“Our vision to be a world leader in the production of LAB and HAB will be enhanced through the new channel relationship with Muntajat.

“We are looking to increase Qatar’s share of global LAB production as demand grows for biodegradable linear alkyl benzene”, he added.
