RasGas opens new state-of-the-art warehouse complex at Ras Laffan
RasGas has opened a new state-of-the-art warehouse at Ras Laffan.
The new warehouse provides support and services for all internal and external user departments of RasGas which include its onshore and offshore facilities.
RasGas chief executive officer Hamad Rashid al-Mohannadi said, “As a world-class energy supplier striving for excellence, we always ensure we remain top class in all departments, be it in production, storage or maintenance. To match with the most advanced technology used in our production facilities, we have made it a point to bring the most innovative techniques in the field of storage too.”
“RasGas has some seven LNG trains and two of them are among the largest in the world. We already have Al Khaleej Gas 1 & 2 and the huge Barzan project is emerging. The first train of Barzan will be inaugurated in 2014 and the second train is expected to be commissioned in 2015. Our second Helium plant is about to be commissioned this year,” he said.
“As our site expands at this magnitude, more and more space is needed for storing vital materials. In order to accommodate them, our warehouse required extra storage space to meet the existing and future demands. The number of items held in stock, for example, is expected to rise from 55,000 to 95,000,” al-Mohannadi said.
He congratulated RasGas’ Supply Department and the project section in the Facilities Management Department under the Management Services Group for the safe and successful completion of this vital project on schedule and with zero lost-time incidents.
Al-Mohannadi also thanked the contractors, Imperial Trading & Contracting Company for the successful delivery of the project, living up to the safety standards of RasGas.
Supply Department manager Abdulla al-Mahmoud said the warehouse expansion project was initiated in 2009 and all works of the warehouse were completed, tested and commissioned by April last year.
The warehouse complex comprises a receiving office, shutdown and logistics office, pallet racking, mobile racking, indoor laydown area, preservation area and cantilever for storing tubes. Other facilities in the complex include chemical storage, equipment-charging, liquid chemical store, air-conditioned lab chemical store, general store and the gas storage with detectors.
All necessary fire detection and prevention systems have been provided in accordance with NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) and Qatar Civil Defence requirements with proper exit and escape as per NFPA stipulations and proper chemical containment to avoid spillage to the storm drainage system.
