US rapper Kanye West’s new short film Cruel Summer, with scenes shot in Qatar, will premiere on Wednesday at the Cannes International Film Festival.

The creation is supported by Doha Film Institute, which successfully co-produced last year’s Arabian epic Black Gold.
Cruel Summer, for which West reportedly chose Qatar over the UAE as a backdrop for the shoot, will be a surround vision seven screen experience, including screens on the floor and ceiling as well.
Several famous faces are set to appear in the film, including Parks and Recreation actor-comedian Aziz Ansari and fellow rapper Kid Cudi.
The piece will be screened out of competition and will stay open to the public for two days after its debut.
West was spotted filming outside Doha last month for the production inspired by his latest album also titled Cruel Summer.
The film, described as a fusion between a short film and an art installation, is said to feature camels and horses.
West rose to fame as a producer for Roc-A-Fella Records, where he became known for his work on fellow US rapper Jay-Z’s album The Blueprint, as well as on singles by artists such as Alicia Keys and Ludacris.
Following his debut album, College Dropout, in 2004, West has released four solo albums and one collaborative album with Jay-Z, all critically acclaimed.
The rapper has racked up more than 25mn digital sales in the US alone during his career, making him one of the country’s top-selling solo male artists.
