Ambassador Palipane speaking at the SLMQ symposium

The Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar (SLMQ) held its annual symposium recently at Gulf Paradise Hotel for the 11th consecutive year.
The symposium is the marquee event of the SLMQ calendar, and has traditionally been graced by a prominent speaker.
The keynote speaker in this year’s event was Mufthi Ismail Musa Menk from Zimbabwe, who delivered the keynote speech on “Unity & Brotherhood”, which was the theme of the evening.
SLMQ public relations co-ordinator Iqbal Samdin delivered the welcome speech while SLMQ president Hazim Hamza, in his address to the gathering, mentioned the achievements and programmes conducted during the year and his vision for the rest of his tenure.
He also mentioned the continuous support of the members, other associations and the Sri Lankan embassy.
Jayantha Palipane, patron of SLMQ and the ambassador of Sri Lanka to Qatar, was the chief guest of the night.
In Palipane’s address to the gathering, he commended the SLMQ’s community activities and stressed upon the importance of leading by example as Sri Lankan nationals.
He emphasised the fact that as expatriates the community must make every effort to help the needy back in Sri Lanka.
The symposium was concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by SLMQ general secretary Mohammed Lafir, which was then followed by a dinner.
