Several expatriate schools will participate in the 17th IWA Kellogg’s Inter-School Quiz Tournament to be held today and tomorrow at Birla Public School (BPS).
The Indian Women’s Association (IWA), which is organising the event, said at least 20 schools would take part in the preliminary rounds of the much-awaited contest to be held today starting at 2.30pm. So far 15 teams have confirmed their participation in the preliminary round.
IWA president Ushus Andrews said they hoped more schools would send teams for today’s prelims.
“Out of them six teams of two members each will qualify for the final to be held from 5pm tomorrow (Friday),” she said.
“Kellogg’s Inter School Quiz contest is for children of schools in Qatar who are studying in grades between 7 and 9,” the IWA chief said.
The competition will have questions on subjects such as literature, sports, science and current affairs.
The IWA quiz has been a hit with the expatriate students community in Qatar and both children and parents of different nationalities attend the final day’s proceedings.
Mohan Kapur, a well-known theatre and television personality, will anchor the quiz for the first time in Doha, in place of the more familiar Derek O’brien, who is now a parliamentarian in India.
Kapur along with the IWA officials briefed the media on the format of the competitions yesterday at a specially convened meeting.
This year Kellogg’s and Ali Bin Ali and Partners are the main sponsors of the event. Gulf Times is the official newspaper.
