Dr Seyed Mohamed Hossein Adeli (pictured) assumes charge as Gas Exporting Countries Forum’s (GECF) new secretary general today.
Dr Adeli, Iran’s representative, is an economist, academic and diplomat with vast international experience. He was appointed as the second secretary general with a two-year term at the 15th ministerial meeting of the GECF in Tehran in November last year.
The GECF is a gathering of the world’s leading gas producers and was set up in 2008 as international governmental organisation with the objective to increasing the level of co-ordination and to strengthen the collaboration among member countries.
Leonid Bokhanovskiy, representative of Russian Federation, was the first secretary general of the GECF.
The member countries of the forum are Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Oman, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, the UAE and Venezuela.
Kazakhstan, Iraq, the Netherlands and Norway have the status of observers.
