The Doha Misdemeanor Court has acquitted a GCC citizen of the charge of annoying his ex-wife through using a mobile phone, local daily Arrayah reported yesterday.

The woman had filed a complaint at Al Rayyan police station claiming that her former husband had been persisting on contacting her by phone and SMS after divorcing her.

She said she repeatedly asked him to stop it and not to annoy her anymore but he kept on calling and sending messages.

The police referred her complaint to the Public Prosecution.

According to Article 293 of the penal code, a person who annoys others, or verbally abuses anyone using wired or wireless means of communication or any other means, shall be punishable with a prison term that does not exceed six months and a maximum fine of QR30,00, or any one of the two penalties.

However, the court found that the plaintiff was the former wife of the accused and he was only trying to reconcile with her and he meant no harm to her.
