The 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic & Sports Museum recently organised Body2Mind Conference at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA).
The conference was aimed at presenting the philosophy, history and implementation of Olympic education programmes and to create a platform for participants to network and share their experience.
The two-day conference presented an opportunity for guests to learn more about local institutions that are actively promoting Olympic education in Qatar, such as the Qatar Olympic Academy, the Qatar Olympic Committee, the Supreme Education Council, and the Aspire
Academy.
The event was also supported by members of the Qatar School Sports Federation, the Qatar Centre for Voluntary Activities, as well as a number of international organisations such as the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace, the International Olympic Academy, International Olympic Truce Centre, and the International School Sports
Federation.
The event presented an opportunity to bring international and national federations and associations together in order to explore newer and more sustainable means of integrating the Olympics in educational programmes, and raising awareness of Olympic values in society.
“The Qatar Olympic & Sports Museum is investing in new educational initiatives as a way to offer opportunities to the people of Qatar and abroad for complete and unforgettable educational experiences with interactive innovative approaches,” said Dr Christian Wacker, director, Qatar Olympic & Sports Museum.
During the conference, the participants engaged in conversations about the development, implementation, and benefits of Olympic education, particularly in Qatar. Topics included how Olympic educational programmes could be presented through media, the history of the Olympics, the role of the United Nations in sports for development and peace, comparisons of different physical education curricula and integration of sports programmes in primary and secondary schools.
The conference also served as a platform for exploring and reviewing campaigns, events and exhibits such as the 3-2-1 Bus Project, OVEP Jordan, the Olympics Through Media and the Olympics Past and Present Exhibition, and various
educational programmes.
The conference was hosted under the patronage of HE Sheikha Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, chairperson of the board of trustees of Qatar Museums Authority.
