Qatar’s Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Dr. Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah has attended the second ministerial meeting on the International Conference on support for Libya, now in session in Rome.
In his address before the meeting, HE al-Attiyah said such a key meeting represents a step in the right direction towards successfully implementing the decisions at the Paris conference held last year.
Libya, HE al-Attiyah said is getting ready for a decisive stage in the current transition. He noted that the conference embodies the grand international consensus on supporting Libya and renews our commitment as the parties concerned with the Libyan issue.
Elaborating the Qatari FM said this pivotal stage in the history of Libya makes it incumbent on the international community to provide assistance to the Libyan government to fulfill its related obligations and help it pass the transitional stage successfully to meet the aspirations of the Libyan people.
Libya , HE al-Attiyah further said has witnessed several positive developments in the past few months including the election of the 60th panel to prepare the new constitution, remarkable progress in security and military operations to help the government establish full control over all Libyan territories and prevent any foreign intervention.
HE the Qatari FM made it clear that any discussion or international initiative on supporting the State of Libya requires meeting security, political and humanitarian challenges by addressing the key issues to build state institutions, restore political stability, deployment of security forces throughout the country and the protection of the Libyan border, including the implementation of the recommendations of the Rabat conference on border security.
Concluding HE al-Attiyah said that the concern of the State of Qatar on the situation in Libya and its stability and security is a firm and steady interest noting that Qatar will continue supporting and standing alongside the Libyan people to achieve their legitimate aspirations.
Thus, we wish the brethren in the national congress and the government of Libya form a mixed delegation comprising revolutionary leaders and embark on a tour and communicate with the international community and assure them that the leaders of the revolution are backing developments in Libya.
Libya’s neighbours and international partners, UN organisations, EU, Arab League, and other international agencies are taking part in the meeting together with senior officials from 25 countries and five international organisations.
