Stenden University Qatar (SUQ) is establishing its position as a driver of innovative initiatives in service management training, research and technology to support tourism in Qatar with the development of Qatar Plus, SUQ has said in a statement. |
Coinciding with the appointment of Dr Eddy Tukamushaba, an international expert in service quality, hospitality education and destination branding, Stenden looks to roll out its new service quality assurance
certification later this year.
At SUQ, Qatar’s only professional hospitality, tourism and international business management college, Dr Tukamushaba will be involved in the new comprehensive service management training programme that aims to instil a superior service mindset across multiple sectors.
The Qatar Plus programme serves to underline the university’s commitment to providing the highest service quality standards through training and education, not only in the hospitality industry but across all areas of
business in Qatar.
SUQ executive dean Professor Robert Coelen said: “We are delighted to welcome Dr Eddy Tukamushaba to join our expanding team of highly accomplished international tourism and hospitality experts. With Qatar Plus, we hope to engage all businesses in Qatar in a bid to protect investment in the country by ensuring an impressive visitor experience for tourists, and Dr Tukamushaba will have a central role in its delivery.”
Qatar Plus will include four major elements. These will combine service training in the application of service standards to make visitors feel welcome from the moment they touch down, with the provision of a universal Wi-Fi connection to simplify a visitor’s stay in the
country.
In addition, the latest mobile technology will provide current information on what is on offer in Qatar with the ability to book events, meals, hotels or transport. Finally, the initiative will include defining Qatar’s web presence to reflect its cultural and sports heritage to enthuse visitors before they arrive.
Dr Tukamushaba said: “It is a great honour to join SUQ at such a watershed moment for tourism and hospitality in Qatar and the Gulf region, which will witness unprecedented growth, and Stenden University Qatar will be at the heart of this
development.”
Dr Tukamushaba joins SUQ as senior lecturer from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, whose School of Hotel and Tourism Management is ranked No. 2 globally in terms of academic scholarship and research in tourism. There, he achieved his PhD in Hotel and Tourism Management after securing a scholarship from the Hong Kong government.
Dr Tukamushaba has 20 years’ international experience in hotels, travel and tourism, and has received numerous awards for research. At SUQ, he will help develop the university’s research capabilities to provide strategic research that supports Qatar’s growth as a world-class tourism hub.
