Doha RFC Men’s 1st XV wrapped up regular season with a win at home in the Gulf Top 6 league. It was a thrilling day at Doha RFC with a third place in the league at stake in the final game versus Bahrain.
With the knowledge of the opponent’s strength, Doha 1st XV went in focused and aware of what they needed to do. The game was played in front a huge crowd of enthusiastic supporters who were not disappointed as the game unfolded to a victory for Doha RFC with a final score of 28 – 10.
Doha 1st XV dominated the match, controlling both possession and territory. The Bahrain backline played the hard game on Doha defense but the boys kept their composure.
Coach Aaron Palmer said, “With Don Blake controlling the game perfectly at 10 and the hard running of James Nakkan outside him getting over the gain line all day which resulted in 2 good tries.”
The squad began the second half with the same strategy as the first half: go in strong on the attack. The back row often took the initiative and was hitting the rucks with precision and speed while some consistent passing kept the boys’ momentum going.
Palmer came on to the pitch to play with the team deep into the second half making his presence felt immediately forcing the plays to turn Doha’s way.
Palmer said: “The team played to plan and used the ball well with the ample territory we had all match which converted to points. The win confirmed us as third in the competition which is not where we wanted to be but a fair reflection of how the season unfolded. The team would like to thank all our supporters for turning up and supporting the team and club throughout the year.”
