Qatargas’ shipping department has achieved the maximum “Five Star Accreditation in Occupational Health and Safety Management” and the “Four Star Accreditation for Environmental Standards and Practices” awarded by the British Safety Council (BSC).

The department’s achievement follows an intensive evaluation conducted by BSC auditors and is in recognition of its continued efforts to set the standard as a premier company and to safely, efficiently and reliably manage and operate all of its resources.

As one of the world’s most prestigious health, safety and environmental auditing organisations, the BSC conducts a programme to benchmark the management systems of companies against current global best practices through its internationally acclaimed “Five Star Audit” scheme.

Qatargas chief executive officer Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa al-Thani received the award from Alex Botha, BSC chief executive, at a special ceremony held at the Qatargas head office in Doha.

Sheikh Khalid said, “We are honoured to receive this prestigious recognition as evidence of our continued efforts to promote world class standards and integrate best practices into our business performance. Qatargas’ shipping department has set yet another milestone and today we are proud to be the first Qatari organisation to have achieved this highly significant global recognition. We are committed to maintaining and enhancing our performance to ensure we continue to meet the highest global standards through the years to come.”

Botha said, “The British Safety Council warmly congratulates the shipping department of Qatargas for achieving the maximum five stars in the British Safety Council’s Five Star Occupational Health and Safety Audit and for achieving a four star rating in the Five Star Environmental Audit. All of those working at Qatargas Shipping Department have made these achievements possible, through their dedication and commitment to preventing injury and ill health in the workplace and to achieving excellent environmental and sustainability performance.

“The British Safety Council is proud of our association with Qatargas and their commitment to keeping their employees and workplaces healthy and safe and to achieving the highest levels of environmental and sustainability performance.”

The Five Star Occupational Health and Safety Audit provides a detailed, independent evaluation of an organisation’s entire health and safety management system and arrangements to ensure the risk of accidents and ill health at work is being properly managed.

The environmental audit provides an independent evaluation of an organisation’s environmental and sustainability policies, processes and practices to ensure sustainable environmental practices are being followed at all times. The audits are available to organisations of all sizes and sectors around the world.
