Barwa Real Estate announced yesterday the appointment of Ahmad Abdulla Ali al-Abdulla as the acting group chief executive officer as of May 19 following the resignation of former Group CEO Abdulla al-Subaie.

Al-Abdulla is a Qatari talent with 22 years of experience in planning and projects management and with more than seven years of experience in investment management and real estate development.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in Engineering in 1990 at Miami University in the US and master’s degree in Engineering in 1992 at George Washington University.

Barwa chairman Salah bin Ghanem al-Ali welcomed al-Abdulla in his new position and expressed his “sincere trust of the group” in the capabilities of the new acting CEO.

Al-Ali also thanked al-Subaie for his years of dedication and his achievements as former Group CEO.

During his career, al-Abdulla worked as planning engineer at the former Ministry of Electricity and Water in 1992; then worked at Kahramaa as project manager for electricity projects in 2000 and head of the technical department in 2004.

Afterwards, he became deputy CEO in charge of the Energy City projects in Qatar, Libya, and India. In 2007 he assumed charge of over 100 Energy City projects all over Qatar with a budget valued at QR50bn. Subsequently he became Barwa deputy Group CEO.

He has played a significant role in selling Barwa Financial District to Qatar Petroleum and changed the name of the project to QP District. He has set up new projects such as Barwa Al Baraha (workers accommodation), Al Khor Shell project, which accommodates Shell employees and Al Khor Sports Complex for Workers.

He is also managing the “Baytna” environmental experiment, which promotes green construction techniques in Qatar.

Al-Abdulla is one of the founders of Qatari Engineers Society and Qatar Scientific Club and a board member in a number of different organisations, including GCC Cigre and Qatar Green Building Council.
